Consultant, Executive Director, Development Director, Program Director, Board member and volunteer. You name it and, over a 22-year career, Laura has worked in just about every non-profit capacity. That experience—and the unique perspective that comes with it—is the cornerstone of her consulting practice. Laura’s clients know that she gets where they’re coming from—their strategic challenges, organizational issues and development goals—and is dedicated to their success. She asks the important questions, and listens well, to give her clients the best advice, determine the best strategies, and find the best solutions.

Before starting Alexander | Carrillo Consulting with Jenny Carrillo in 2010, Laura ran her own consulting firm for three years. Her extensive experience in non-profit management includes: Executive Director of the Birth & Women’s Health Center (5 years); Development Director at the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona (3 years); and Executive Director of Domestic Abuse Intervention Services in Madison, WI (5 years). She also held positions at Native Seeds/SEARCH and Wingspan Domestic Violence Project, both in Tucson, and comes from a long history of programming and fundraising in the area of domestic violence.

Laura holds a Master of Arts in Philanthropy & Development from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. She is also a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), completing the highly respected certification process and demonstrating proficiency of professional practice, performance, education, service and commitment to ethical fundraising.  Along with Jenny, Laura is a Certified Governance Trainer (CGT) by BoardSource. Laura has completed the Master Trainer program of the international Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the 42-hour Basic Mediation Training of the Center for Community Dialogue, a program of Our Family Services.

Laura has served as President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Southern Arizona Chapter, which also recognized her work in 2012 by naming her Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year. She serves the community as a volunteer for Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF), a board member for the YWCA of Southern Arizona, a member of the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, and a volunteer for both the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Planned Giving Roundtable. In 2017, she was honored with the Dr. Jean Baker Community Ally Award by Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation for her work in the LGBT community. In her spare time, Laura enjoys yoga classes and a vast menagerie of pets with her husband Fabian Alfie, a University of Arizona Professor, and their daughter Cecilia.

When it comes to fund development, non-profit governance, and strategic planning, Jenny Carrillo is a one-women wellspring of insight, knowledge and enthusiasm. With 24 years of non-profit experience, there is perhaps no one more capable at getting right to the core issues, assessing strengths and limitations, identifying challenges and opportunities, and integrating everything into a coherent—and do-able!—plan. Clients value her integrity, forthrightness and fervent support. And with that silver-bullet combination so prized in the non-profit world—a keen intellect and a big heart—Jenny offers solid and perceptive advice to help her clients grow, perform and exceed their expectations.

Jenny worked for seven years as an independent consultant before she founded Alexander | Carrillo Consulting with Laura Alexander. Her consulting practice, Beyond Fundraising, says it all. Her prior work included extensive experience in developing and executing effective fundraising plans as well as grant writing and public relations in the following jobs: Director of Development for the Arizona’s Children Association (4 years), Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson (2 years), and the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation/Shanti Foundation, Tucson (3 years) as well as public relations positions at Up with People in Denver, CO, and Youth Service America in Washington, DC.

In 2006, she was honored as AFP’s Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year. Along with Laura, Jenny is a Certified Governance Trainer (CGT) through BoardSource. She is also serves on the Interfaith Community Services (ICS) Community Advisory Committee, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ben’s Bells Project, and a board member for the Amphi Public Schools Foundation. Her husband, Leo Carrillo, is a 5th-generation Tucsonan with deep roots in the community, and they have two daughters, Quincy and Carson.

 

Hanna Miller, Events and Project Manager

Hanna Miller brings a breath of fresh air and boundless energy to her work with clients at Alexander |Carrillo Consulting. With her signature sense of humor, long history of family engagement in the philanthropic world, and a spark of brilliance, she enhances every project on which she works. She has an uncanny ability to spot what needs to change and coach people toward making it happen.

With over 20 years of experience in the thrilling Entertainment/Hospitality industry of Central Florida, Hanna Miller has a wide variety of experience in business management, human resources and talent management, event production and customer service to offer nonprofit clients. Her specialty is transition management, because nothing fuels her relentless optimism quite like helping create a functional team in the face of impossible odds.  In fact, you could say that impossible odds are her specialty after a career managing lion tamers, belly dancers, magicians, acrobats, horse trainers, bartenders, accountants, and other difficult personalities.

Hanna offers a variety of skills and services for clients, including executive and staff coaching; Special Event strategy, planning and management; donor prospect research and data management; expert, efficient management of special projects, and extraordinary idea generating and creative problem solving abilities.

In her ‘free time’ Hanna is leader of her class project for Greater Tucson Leadership.  She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Reid Park Zoological Society and has served as the chair of the prestigious Zoocson event for three years; she serves on the Board of Trustees for The Gregory School (which was founded by her grandmother, the (late) great Bazy Tankersley); and this year joined the Board of Directors for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) where she is currently chairing their signature annual event, National Philanthropy Day.

Roxane Ramos, MBA, MFA, Communications and Content Specialist

With a background in both business and the arts, Roxane brings a Renaissance-worthy complement of skills to her communications projects—marketing, concept/content development, wordsmithing, public relations and project management. She has worked with non-profit and for-profit clients, worldwide organizations and community establishments for 25 years, employing interdisciplinary, bi-brained methods—finding inspiration in unexpected places, relying on both analysis and creativity—to shape messages and materials that are clear, strategic, and persuasive. Roxane will help you create, reinforce or clarify your identity, and cut through all the media “noise” to let the people you want to reach know exactly who you are, what you do, and why it’s the bee’s knees.

Roxane has done consulting and writing work with a number of businesses and organizations in the Bay Area, Tucson and elsewhere, from the University of Arizona Alumni Association to Sundance Catalog Company to VISA International as well as non-profits and small businesses in the arts, design, high-tech, public television, community development, and education. She was the Visitor Services/Store Manager (4 years) and the Public Relations Director (2 years) at the Center for Creative Photography. She has also done marketing and outreach work for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Press.

Roxane holds a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and Non-Profit Management from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona. She serves on the Marketing Communications Committee of the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona, Canadian pharmacy online Agriculture. She has written arts essays, film reviews, and city guides for publication, and interviewed a number of Tucson academic, business and community leaders for local magazines. A certified yoga instructor, Roxane also teaches at the studio right above the Alexander | Carrillo offices. When she’s not catching the latest Loft offering or cooking up a dinner party, she hangs out with her feline roommates, Bodhi and Monkey, who pretty much run the house.

 

Eduardo Aguirre, Social Media Manager

Eduardo is the founder of EDUMEDIA, LLC, a social media marketing and consulting firm working in partnership with Alexander | Carrillo Consulting. He has worked as a community manager for social networks and online communities, as well as offering English-Spanish translation services and e-mail marketing campaigns since 2008.

Eduardo is passionate about social media and the networking power that it holds to connect people.  He offers social media consulting and management to nonprofits, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and large companies. Eduardo serves as a megaphone for your mission by promoting fundraising campaigns, online community organizing, and constituency development.

In addition to managing social media for Alexander | Carrillo Consulting, Eduardo has worked with Tucson Meet Yourself, Up with People,  Strike Out Stroke, and Moon Moosic, as well as Alexander | Carrillo Consulting clients, including Kino Border Initiative (KBI) and Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona (CCS).
