Jenny and I just returned from a week at the BoardSource Leadership Forum in New Orleans and it was fantastic!  I attended the two-day conference, and then Jenny joined me for the three day Certified Governance Trainer program.  We were two of 22 consultants selected from across the country to participate in the training program, and we were really excited to have this opportunity!

If you aren’t familiar with BoardSource, you should check out their website.  BoardSource is the go-to source for all things related to good nonprofit board governance.

While it is a membership-based service, there are many resources available to download for free, as well as numerous books and other materials available for a fee.

I learned so much about trends and best practices in governance.  We’ll be working to digest this information and integrate it with our own training and consulting clients.  We’re really proud that there is a body of knowledge and research that supports the work that we do, and that we have access to some of the top trainers and researchers in the country through our relationship with BoardSource.

Based on BoardSource’s “Board Building Cycle”, we’ll walk through the steps to create your own plan to recruit, engage and retain a high quality board.  This is a half-day session, and a perfect opportunity to bring your board chair or governance committee members.  It’s also budget friendly – only $99 for the first registrant and $45 for each additional person.

I look forward to sharing more about what we’ve learned, but right now I need to go work off some of that delicious N’awlins cuisine!

Sincerely,

Laura Alexander
