Laura and I are big advocates for professional development and the ‘professionalization’ of our sector. As such, we have personally committed to pursuing opportunities to not only expand our own knowledge and understanding of best practices in the field, but to also strengthen the credibility of nonprofit professionals in general.
That’s why we were so excited to learn about the Certified Governance Trainer program offered by BoardSource, and even more thrilled when we were BOTH accepted to participate in the three day training last month. It was rigorous and inspiring, and we got meet and work with consultants and trainers from across the U.S. and U.K.
The training culminated with a “teach back” to our peers and a panel of “judges” from BoardSource. Although we completed the training, we weren’t guaranteed to receive the certification until we demonstrated proficiency in both content and training technique, as well positive reference checks.
Well, we received official notification last week that Laura and I earned the Certified Governance Trainer designation from BoardSource and are now part of an ‘elite’ group of only 140 trainers in the world! As such will be able to utilize the BoardSource training materials, research and tools here locally in our consulting work. We are really excited to be able to partner with THE recognized resource on all things related to nonprofit boards, and even more eager to be able to share that with our clients and our community.
If you’d like to learn more about how we can work with you and your board to improve good governance and leadership, give one of us a call. We’d love to explore how we can work together!
